Pakistan Cricket Board has luckily been shown interest by four different corporations who all want to help launch Pakistan’s first ever international T20 league. Competing with... everything that India does, Pakistan does not want to leave behind when it comes to cricket. Already with the banning of international matches in the country has dealt a big blow to Pakistan both economically as well as from the perspective of the sport of cricket.
Hence, till now, the hope of staging Pakistan’s own T20 league had only been a dream since 2007. May be it might come to some fruits, if these interested investors are taken upon their words and offers. According to the PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmed, they want investors to discuss their plans as to how they want to conduct Pakistan Premier League.
Let us hope that PPL does not just remain till a plan but becomes a reality. Both sides, the investors and the PCB have to work together for this to bring Pakistan cricket its due recognition in the format of T20. The good news could come about as early as the Twenty20 World Cup that will take place later this year.
If PPL does take off, the fans of cricket in Pakistan could not have been given a better gift than this. To have an opportunity to see international cricketers perform in front of their own eyes, in the grounds of their home towns, Pakistani cricket fans would be in a blissful state and so will be the economy.
