LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be shown presentations next week on the feasibility and possibility of launching a Pakistan Premier League T20 competition this year.
Pakistan Cricket Board has luckily been shown interest by four different corporations who all want to help launch Pakistan’s first ever international T20 league. Competing with... everything that India does, Pakistan does not want to leave behind when it comes to cricket. Already with the banning of international matches in the country has dealt a big blow to Pakistan both economically as well as from the perspective of the sport of cricket. Hence, till now, the hope of staging Pakistan’s own T20 league had only been a dream since 2007. May be it might come to some fruits, if these interested investors are taken upon their words and offers. According to the PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmed, they want investors to discuss their plans as to how they want to conduct Pakistan Premier League. Let us hope that PPL does not just remain till a plan but becomes a reality. Both sides, the investors and the PCB have to work together for this to bring Pakistan cricket its due recognition in the format of T20. The good news could come about as early as the Twenty20 World Cup that will take place later this year. If PPL does take off, the fans of cricket in Pakistan could not have been given a better gift than this. To have an opportunity to see international cricketers perform in front of their own eyes, in the grounds of their home towns, Pakistani cricket fans would be in a blissful state and so will be the economy.
Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed has said that four international and national companies have offered PCB to organise Pakistan Premier League (PPL). Talking to media on Wednesday, Ahmand said that the PCB was serious to organise domestic league, adding that the board have asked the companies to give presentation next week. Ahmad maintain that the companies would give their suggestion for the league. Ahmed said that international player participation was necessary for the success of such a competition. However, He added that induction of the international players would be decided later. Sources added that PCB was planning to hold the league in October this year. Sources say besides a Dubai and Karachi based sports management group, a company with direct links to a well-known international television broadcasting and sports management company will also make presentations at the PCB meeting.
